Electronically Prescribe a Medication

Medications can easily be electronically prescribed for a patient within QSIDental Web and the connection with MD Toolbox.

To prescribe a medication:
  1. Click the ERx icon to launch the module.
  2. Click the New Rx button ().
  3. Complete the details for the specific medication.
  4. Select the radio button beside HRx (historical prescription) if required.
  5. Begin typing the name of the medication.
  6. Select the desired medication from the list. Be sure to select the desired delivery method and amount.If the patient is allergic to the medication
    An alert will display automatically.
    The medications displayed within the search list can be adjusted using the Drug Search tool
  7. Enter the dosage and dispensary instructions. Click the magnifying class icon to select directions, or use the dosing calculator.
  8. Add a diagnosis code, if desired.
  9. Begin typing the diagnosis and select the desired code as appropriate.
  10. Save or Save and send the prescription.
  11. Click the Save+Send Now button to select a pharmacy and transmit the electronic prescription.
  12. Click the Save button to save the prescription and return to it later.
  13. Click the Save+New button to save the current prescription and launch a new prescription form.
  14. Click the Save+Close button to save the current prescription and return to the transmission at a later point.
    The prescription will be listed as pending in the ePrescribing module and can be reviewed as needed. There are a number of options available for working with the prescriptions in this overview page.

Transmit an ePrescription

Once a prescription is completed with the proper formula, dosage and dispensary instructions, it must be transmitted to a pharmacy. The ePrescribing options in QSIDental Web allow individual prescriptions to be sent as needed or for all prescriptions to be transmitted at once. First, a pharmacy must be selected for the prescription and then it must be sent.

  1. Select the desired prescription either by clicking the Save+SendNow button when the prescription is written or clicking the Complete button on the summary screen.

    To transmit an ePrescription:

  2. Select the desired pharmacy.
  3. Click the magnifying glass icon.
  4. Select the desired pharmacy from the list.
  5. Click the Star icon to select from the favorites list.
  6. Click the Globe icon to use Google to search for a pharmacy near the location.
  7. Click the X icon to remove the selected pharmacy.
  8. Click the eSend button ().

ePrescribing Options

When writing a prescription, additional options are available for managing the search process and reviewing details of the medication. The options include:

Open the Drug Search tool to manage the criteria and available search database.

Show any alerts such as allergies that would impact the selected medication for the selected patient. The alerts will display automatically if a conflict is found. If Continue/Override is selected, these alerts can be displayed again with the icon.

Launch any drug reference materials or leaflets available for the selected medication.

Drug Search Tools

The QSIDental Web ePrescribing/MDToolbox module allows a clinician to change the search criteria and source database when adding a new prescription. The option is not saved as a preference and must be adjusted each time.

In the prescription writing screen, click the Drug Search Tools icon.The resultant menu includes a variety of radio buttons to filter and manage the search for a specific medication.

In the first section, select the radio button beside the desired search limit. Please note that only one option may be selected.

  • Selecting All Drugs will search within the full library of all drugs as provided by MDToolbox.
  • Selecting Library will conduct the search within the practice's library.
  • Selecting Favorites will conduct the search only within the prescriber's established list of favorites.
  • Selecting Drug Class will search for a class of drug rather than the drug name.
  • Selecting Indication will search for the indication rather than the drug name.
  • Selecting Supplies will search for medical supplies rather than drugs, for example, needles.

In the middle section, click the radio button or checkbox beside the desired options. Select the search method. Please note only one option may be selected.

  • Selecting Begins with will search for items that begin with the entered characters.
  • Selecting Contains will search for items that contain the entered characters anywhere in the name.

Any combination of items may be included or excluded from the search.

  • Selecting RX will include prescription medications in the search.
  • Selecting OTC will include over the counter medications in the search.
  • Selecting Brand will include brand name versions of a medication.
  • Selecting Generic will include the generic versions of branded medications.
  • Selecting Obsolete will include medications that have been deemed obsolete.

In the final section, click the checkboxes to further filter the search list by ignoring specific medications. Either or both may be selected.

  • Selecting Supply not in DB will not return a medication if there a supply is not indicated in the database.
  • Selecting Compound not in DB will not return a medication if the compound is not included in the database.
