ePrescribing Overview

ePrescribing allows for the generation, transmission and filing of prescriptions electronically. A clinical professional can electronically transmit a new prescription or renewal authorization directly to a pharmacy. ePrescribing reduces the risks associated with traditional prescription writing and is enhanced with electronic records that encourage the sharing of medical and prescription information.

ePrescribing is available in QSIDental Web through the integration of a special system called MDToolbox, which also maintains some patient information. The ePrescribing/MDToolbox module is separated into two different sections, each used for different purposes:

• ePrescribing Patient Side: The patient side focuses on the individual, selected patient in QSIDental Web. The patient identity banner will always reflect the selected patient and will only display information relative to that patient.
• Manage ePrescribing Side: The manage ePrescribing side provides an overview of all patients with pending ePrescriptions or outstanding refill requests. No patient identity banner is visible because no selected patient applies.

Access the Patient ePrescribing side by clicking the ePrescribing icon, or by selecting e-Prescription from the Patient menu. 

The module will open with the current patient's profile.

There are several tasks that can be accomplished in the Patient ePrescribing side, including:

• ePrescribe a medication.
• Add a patient's allergy to the profile.
• Add a patient's preferred pharmacy to the profile.
• Review the patient's medication list.

Access the manage ePrescribing side of the ePrescribing Module by selecting Manage ePrescribe from the Setup menu. Access to this side is controlled by a separate security right.

If the option does not appear, ePrescribing has not been enabled for the practice. Contact support or inside sales for more information.

The module will open with no specific patient selected.

There are several tasks that can be accomplished in the Managing ePrescribing side, including:

• Add a favorite medication.
• Add common directions.
• Review the pending medications for all patients.
